Super Y League for Summer 2019

CUSA Soccer Club is delighted to have been accepted into one of the most competitive leagues in the world for youth soccer, Super Y.

What is Super Y?

Founded in 1999, Super Y is a nation-wide youth soccer league operated by the United Soccer Leagues (USL), which comprises some of the toughest competition available in North America.

Super Y is affiliated with US Soccer, and contains the youth academies of Major League Soccer clubs, USL PRO clubs, Premier Development League and W-League clubs.

Divisions within Super Y are organized geographically, and membership in the league is limited to only a few elite programs (of which CUSA is one) to ensure strong competition.

The league is made up of a series of regional leagues within the framework of an elite National league containing the top clubs and players from the United States.

Super Y in the Summer is a fantastic opportunity for players to spend some time with a different group of players and coaches from their regular club team, something that most club players are not lucky enough to experience.

Players receive unique competitive & experiential opportunities through programs and events such as the North American Finals and USL Experience—a multi-day residential experience providing an unprecedented look into the pro ranks while connecting the Super Y League’s top young players to the professional level.

Super Y even has a program called USLX where the 72 best players are invited to a 4-day residential camp at a professional club’s complex.

  •     Hope Sports Complex, Lansing, MI
  •     Pacesetter Park, Toledo, OH
  •     Total Sports Complex, Washington, MI

Who will coach?

Some of the strongest and most highly licensed coaches in the State of Ohio, subject to change are,

  • Grant Knight – A license
  • Stephen Hauter - A license

  • Dave Woeste - B license

  • *other coaches

What will my club coach say?

They should be extremely happy!

Super Y is a summer-only program which does not interfere with club scheduling and players will not be recruited from Super Y teams to any other programs.

The simple fact of the matter is that you will be coached by the strongest coaches in the State, be playing with the strongest players in State and playing against some of the strongest players in the country, so your game is bound to improve as a result.

How much does it cost?

The full cost of the program may vary by age, but will be about $495.

This includes;

  •     All fees; field hire, coach’s fees, referee’s fees, player registration and player pass.

This does NOT include;

  •      Uniform.
  •     Travel, lodging and associated costs like food and drink etc.

How many players will be selected for each Super Y League team?

Larger roster sizes are necessary to accommodate absences due to summer vacations, ODP and other soccer activities.

Does playing for a Super Y team increase a player’s chances of being recognised for Development Academy or National Pool teams?

Playing with and against some of the strongest players around, whilst receiving fantastic coaching from highly qualified coaches, can only improve a player’s chances of making it at the next level.

For High School age players it can, depending upon how try-outs work out, lead to them playing with players from the same High School before their season starts.

Super Y teams are not restricted by state association "poaching" or recruitment rules, so players are free to pursue a fantastic and high-level training and playing experience that they would otherwise not have available to them

What is the selection process?

Tryouts are held in November to create our Summer teams with supplemental tryouts in Spring.

The Spring tryouts will be used as a training camp for the already selected players and also serve as supplemental tryouts to add a few roster spots.

Players attending try-outs can expect to hear from their coaches shortly after the last day of tryouts.

What are the North American Finals?

The Super Y-League North American Finals is regarded as one of the top youth soccer events in North America.

It is a five-day tournament that includes more than 130 of the best U12 to U18 boys and girls teams in the US and Canada.

If a team qualifies from their respective regions, they may face the best from throughout North America in a quest to become a National champion.

This event typically occurs in December at the world-renowned IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton, FL.
